At the End of March, We Did a Road Trip! And I Hate That!

Our end of March was quite different than the other months we’ve been through. I’ve traveled to Makassar for business, we stayed-cation at Four Season, we ate SaladStop in two consecutive days, and we did a road trip to Yogyakarta visiting Mas Gepeng’s family. Wow! Felt like a decade that we don’t get busy with travel things! I even got my first experience left by the plane! Oh March, you have rushed our adrenaline! Anyway, hello dear readers! I hope you all had a restfully enjoyable long weekend last week—happy easter!—and were able to come into April feeling like your body after a shower at 4.30 in the morning (OMG who am I kidding!).

This post is quite different than usual, but if you looking back to my old blogposts (clue: category ‘lately’), I’ve written this kind of diary every month. And now I kinda miss it. So with that in mind, and fortunately our last month was quite matchy with the theme of this blog, I want to make a special footprint. Herewith things that made us smile and cry at the end of March

1. We actually decided to go to Yogyakarta were three days before departure. I texted my father asking whether we can borrow his car and will be back with a big box of gudeg and bakpia Kurnia Sari (at the end, we forget about bakpia), he said yes, I said yeehaaaa.
2. In the same week, we stayed-cation at Four Season for free, and woaaa, I know this would sound disgraceful but their cheapest suite was SO MUCH BETTER than our own home. Label five-start hotel for them is no joke! I will tell you later about how fancy our stay is, and how can they have a little walk-in closet in such a room!?
3. Oh before Yogyakarta, I went to Makassar for business reason. The meeting only needs a half-day, and most of the time I used to visit my college friend, Gibil, and did a culinary festive. At first, I planned to extend my stay and Mas Gepeng will catch up, but I forgot I have an invitation I promise to come.
4. In Makassar, when I swallowed my otak-otak Ati Raja, I told my friend about how Bantimurung was the cupid between me and Mas Gepeng. Back in 2012, we—as a friend—together with our friends, backpacked to Makassar and Toraja. We went to Bantimurung and washed our faces in a small pond. People say after you wash your face at the pond, you will find your true love soon. Wow, a kind of myth I’d love to trust! You know, girls 😌 At that time, I have a boyfriend. I pictured his face on my mind while I washed my face with another guy and make a wish. Funny huh? As you may guess, the myth (and of course God will) played a trick. Two years later, I broke up, then I fell in love with Mas Gepeng a year after and marry him after two months of relationship. I was like, should I wash my face with Gong Yoo back in Bantimurung? Why can’t I realize it sooner?
5. BUT I did have a good culinary time in Makassar. I finally ate red fried rice made by the legend and ate Palopo durian for the first time. It was so so delish! Best durian ever! Will tell you all the food I’ve tried in Makassar in a special post.
6. In the first tri-semester of 2021, we’ve been dealing with kitten’s well-being. At the end of March, we’ve lost two kittens due to virus and worms issues. However, we still need to be grateful for the better health of the other kittens. I’u (spelled i’u in Indonesian pronounce) has been struggling with diarrhoea and parasite issues for two weeks. She has to stay at the clinic for days and now she’s back home with us and recovery pretty well. She ate a lot! And now please pray for Lila, our other beautiful kitten that tested positive for feline panleu virus. I believe she’s strong enough to fight this battle. She’s a wonder!
7. A little explanation about why I hate our road trip to Yogyakarta, it’s because it was too short and we were really tired. Even we were not deal with traffic, but driving hundreds of kilometres was a true challenge! We haven’t driven in a looong time, we don’t even have a car! If we had two weeks, it probably wouldn’t be that tiring. And when we back home, we found so many poops around the house. We’ve never seen so many poops when we got home from travelling. It seems like our cats are adjusting their metabolism again because it has been a year since we left them to travel. I hope this will be a good exercise. Looking forward take our passport to the new immigration border!

Well, I think that mostly covers it. Finally some real adventures to report back on the blog, other than cycling through the narrow alleys and buy tahu bulat digoreng dadakan. Yeah, that’s it.
